Scientific studies from 2001 and 2006 demonstrate the energetic effectiveness of ThermoShield Exterieur and provide the basis for ThermoShield.
On the two residential blocks in Karstädt and Perleberg, a book entitled "The new energy saving regulation taking into account the existing real estate" was published in Hammonia Verlag in 2002. Here, it was found that the coating functions in practice. For this purpose, 2 practical examples with data and facts are presented. The author reports on his own investigations on ThermoShield Exterieur coated residential blocks in Perleberg (Brandenburg), which prove the reducing of the heating energy requirement by 20%.
In a press release from April 2004, it was read: "Wolfgang Gelleszun, member of the Board of the housing association Perleberg, summarized the experiences so far:" Our tenants were able to save significantly heating costs. In addition, we have almost no problems with mold because the moisture in the rooms is transported from the inside out. Since the coating protects the facade from dirt and environmental influences, the houses still look as freshly renovated after five years. In short: ThermoShield keeps what it promises."
The painter company Krause from Bremen has been coating residential blocks of the housing association Perleberg with ThermoShield Exterieur since 1998. In May 2008, there were more than 25 residential blocks. Master painter Hans-Joachim Krause already pointed out another advantage: "A conventional residential block renovation takes about six months. For a rehabilitation with ThermoShield you only need six weeks and it costs only half."
In November 2009, representatives from the Swedish company ThermoGaia SA visited the WBG Perleberg to get the results of the facade coatings from ThermoShield. At this time, the WBG had already coated 28 residential blocks (total of approximately 1,100 units) with ThermoShield, viz. in the period between 1998 to 2009. The energy savings were 14-24%, which corresponds to a reduction of the heat losses over the outer walls in the order of 30-40%. For this purpose, a continuous consumption survey was carried out for comparison with the reference data for the period 2000 to 2006.
The evaluations of the residential blocks of the WBG Perleberg provided proof of the energy efficiency of ThermoShield Exterieur as well as the empirical basis for the calculation values of ThermoShield.
Perleberg is the district town of the district of Prignitz in the north-east of Brandenburg. With around 12,000 inhabitants, it is the second-largest city in the district of Wittenberge. The export report prepared under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. M. Sohn, FHTW Berlin on 06.08.2001, was commissioned by the housing association Perleberg, which provided extensive data for this purpose. SICC GmbH was founded in 2003.
The basis for the expert report was the WBG's wish for scientific validation of the results. The housing association was interested in the investigation, because it had applied ThermoShield for the exterior wall coating on several residential blocks and wanted to ensure that an energy-saving effect was actually given. As a result of the processing, the doubts were solved.
A total of five objects were included in the investigations, two objects at the Perleberg site and three objects at the Karstädt location. For all five objects, the energy-saving effect of ThermoShield could already be read on the basis of the measured consumption values. For five large objects, sufficient static safety is provided to clearly confirm the influence of the ThermoShield coating.
A further energy consumption analysis was carried out in 2006 by Prof. Sohn. This applied, for example, to the residential block in Dobberziner Str. 22-27. It is a 5-storey building built in 1977, 86.60 m long and 10.15 m wide. 3.602 m² of living space is accounted for by 60 apartments. In the so-called block construction type 1.1 Mp, the outer longitudinal wall elements were produced in one layer from lightweight aggregate concrete or aerated concrete, since 1977 in the wall thickness 30 cm at the Parchim plant.
This study was commissioned by SICC GmbH. It was not so much to prove the effect of ThermoShield but rather to make a first attempt to include the effect of ThermoShield in the calculations of energy performance of buildings on the basis of the procedures according to DIN 4108 part 6 and to take account of the factual and location-specific balancing DIN EN 832 and DIN 4108 part 6.
Besides the extension of the evaluation period from original 1994 to 2000 by the period 2001 to 2006 and in addition to the repeated confirmation of the energy-saving effect of ThermoShield, the main result was that "The application of the ThermoShield factors in the energy supply system for residential buildings (...) showed very good consistency between the calculated demand values for the final energy demand with billing values of the energy consumption".
